Anti-corrosion protection oil

Double liquid and gaseous protection: VCI oil that lubricates on contact and protects with anti-corrosive vapors

The PROPATECH VCI OIL anti-corrosion protection oil represents an innovative solution that combines lubrication and anti-corrosive protection in a single versatile product. Its distinctive feature is the dual protective action: it protects through direct contact by lubricating metal surfaces and simultaneously releases VCI anti-corrosive vapors that reach even the most difficult-to-reach points. This technology makes it ideal for protecting "closed systems" such as tanks, gearboxes and manufactured items that may contain oil, where gaseous protection is needed in areas inaccessible to direct contact.

The PROPATECH VCI OIL can be used by spray, by immersion or by brush and protects iron, steel, copper, brass, bronze and other metals even without direct contact, thanks to the released vapors. Its compatibility with water, gasoline, oil and diesel, and the ability to burn without forming ash, allows it to be left on engines even during operation. For removal, alcohol or alkaline detergents can be used. It is normally used in the metal-mechanical industry, in the preservation of new machinery, workshops for the protection of metal hardware and for the internal protection of pipes and metal channeling, offering lubrication and preservation.

Problems solved by this product

Is VCI dangerous for the health of people working directly with anticorrosive products for packaging?

Anticorrosive VCI products used in the packaging are not dangerous for the health of people because VCI is a physiologically inactive substance. Any problem of eye or skin irritation have been found in people that directly worked with packagings treated with VCI. In any case, because VCI is a chimical substance, is suggested the use of gloves when in contact with the anticorrosive packaging. We also suggest to always ask for the safety data sheet to our customer care before using anticorrosive Propatech VCI products for your packagings.

What VCI stands for?

VCI stands for Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor.

How does VCI work?

VCI is a complex combination of substances which sublimate and form a thin invisible layer able to neutralise corrosive agents, such as water vapour, oxygen, salty air, sulfur-based gases, and polluting agents commonly present in the air.

Corrosion

The chemical or electrochemical reaction between a material, usually a metal, and its environment that produces a deterioration of the material and its properties.

Diffusion

Diffusion is the volatile distribution of VCI molecules into the packaging.

Nitrites

PROPATECH VCI products for the protection against corrosion are free from nitrites.

Nitrites are made of a nitrogen atom and two oxygen atoms negatively charged and it can be found in some anticorrosive VCI products on the market. Its presence has to be allowed and declared from the producer.

Oxidation

A corrosion reaction in which the corroded metal forms an oxide; usually applied to reaction with a gas containing elemental oxygen, such as air.

Rust

Rust is a general term for a series of iron oxides. Colloquially, the term is applied to red oxides, formed by the reaction of iron and oxygen in the presence of water or air moisture. Rust generates metal corrosion.

Sublimation

Transformation from a solid to a gaseous state of VCI molecules starting from the protective material (paper, film, diffusers, foams, etc...).

VCI

VCI is a Volatil Corrosion Inhibitor that can sublimate, from a solid to a gas state, and form a thin invisible layer able to neutralize corrosive agents such as: water vapour, oxygen, saline atmosphere, sulphurous gases and the most common industrial environmental pollutants present in the air.

Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor

The Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor is a chemical substance that inhibits electrochemical oxidation of metals in reaction with an oxidant such as oxygen.
